Twitter is a great way to expand the audience of one's brand, and has worked quite well for us at Infusionsoft. However, anytime I see tweets with "please RT," they are pathetic and don't offer me (as a user) value in following you.

Quality is the essence of good Twitter interactions. Finding people in your niche and the top dogs are a good way to engage in good conversation.

Yeah, I've seen many peculiar trends in people following me when I change my bio to include various keywords.

Thanks for commenting, Kevin. I always appreciate your thoughts. :-)

~Joe

Of course, the strategy is to get people outside of your followers to see you and want to follow you. I've not really seen many people use it outside of internet marketing people who are convinced that the only way to make money is to have 50K followers.

Me, I'm much more concerned about finding the exact people in my niche. Best I can tell at this point, that number is nowhere near 50K, so I don't really care.

Another interesting experiment. Change your twitter bio to include the words "internet marketing". See how many followers you get tomorrow...
