Now that you have a Facebook Page, you’re probably thinking, “Now what?” Good question. We recommend capturing prospects and leads with it. A popular question Infusionsoft users have is how can they use Facebook with Infusionsoft. In this tutorial, you’ll know exactly how you can integrate Facebook with Infusionsoft.
IMPORTANT: This post is outdated. Read this post for the current tutorial on How to Use an Infusionsoft Web Form on Facebook Pages.
To begin, you must have a Facebook Page. Not a group, not a personal profile, but a Page. If you have questions on this, read my head-to-head-to-head comparison between the three types of profiles on Facebook. It’s pretty much a pre-requisite to do this.
Once you have your Facebook Page established, you probably want to add an Infusionsoft Web Form to it so people can opt-in and receive killer marketing sequences from you.
To add an Infusionsoft opt-in form to your Facebook Page, we will do this in three steps. It might get technical, but remember, we’re going to go one step at a time.
- Add the Facebook FBML Application to your page.
- Create a “Box” with your Web Form code.
- Customize and publish the “Box” to your Page.
It’s actually much easier than the steps below indicate. I’ve put together a video for you showing you step-by-step on how to put a Web Form on your Facebook Page. For optimal viewing, click full-screen in the bottom right corner for the best quality.
(Or, if you have trouble watching, watch it on YouTube HD.)
1. Add the Facebook FBML Application to your Facebook Page
This application is designed for publishers (meaning, you) to add a custom snippet of HTML code and leverage some interaction into the Facebook API. You don’t have to be very technical to use this app; it’s remarkably powerful to help make your Page come alive with custom design and code.
- Go to your Facebook Page and click Edit Page.
- Scroll down to the bottom, click the “Static FBML” link under More Applications.
- Click “Add to My Page” and choose the correct Page you manage.
2. Create a Box with your content in it.
Inside the Static FBML app, it’s helpful to remember that everything is considered a “box.” A box is nothing more than a collection of code that has a title and code. Boxes can either live as a “box” in your “Boxes” tab, become its own tab or be published only to the Wall — the primary view on your Page.
When you create a box, you should give it a friendly, understandable name because people will see it and interact with it.
- From your Page, click “Edit Page”
- Scroll down and click “Edit” within the Static FBML section.
- Make a title for your new “Box.”
- Fill your box with content. It accepts HTML and CSS but not JavaScript. This is where you would copy and paste your Infusionsoft Web Form code.
- If you’re geeky, you can read more info about what FBML stuff you can put there (Like videos, Google Analytics, etc).
3. Customize and Publish your “Box.”
You’re almost done! Now that you got your “Box” all set, you just want to publish it somewhere. By default, the boxes will be visible under the “Boxes” tab in Facebook. This tab is unnecessary and boxes can be removed at your will without risking deletion.
I recommend placing a “Box” on the Wall for lead generation and if you wish use a Tab for a more-detailed type of sub-page. If you’re not doing it already, I strongly recommend segmenting your Facebook people separately from your more traditional lead-gen methods – you know, so you can send tailored, personalized messages to people who found you on Facebook.
There is no preview with the Static FBML app. All changes saved are live, so working quickly, testing and tweaking are essential to making sure everything works right.
To place a Box on the Wall, there are a few steps:
- Go to the Boxes tab and find your Box.
- Along the upper right section of the Box, there’s a pen. Click it.
- Click “Move to Wall”
- From there, your screen should refresh with the new position of the box. Facebook is stringent about the placement of third-party apps. Nothing goes above or between Picture and “People who Like” sections. Also, don’t worry about “Insights” because only you can see that.
Remember – you can use just about any HTML and CSS so long as it’s in-line or within the box. If you need help, visit W3School online for tutorials and examples of CSS. That said, I’ve included the sample code you saw in the video below. I’ve commented it so you understand what’s happening, too. Download a sample here.
Adding a Web Form to your Facebook page helps bridge the gap between your social media presence and your email marketing strategy. You can be very creative with your lead generation pieces by leveraging Infusionsoft’s powerful targeting and segmentation features. Email allows you to follow-up with your fans and being to send them well-crafted, helpful content. They’ll probably thank you for sending them relevant material, too.
