Small Business Poll: Is the Recession Over Yet?

August 11, 2009 | by Joseph Manna

Thinner Wallets in the Recession? Maybe...It’s that time when we check the pulse of entrepreneurs nationwide and ask you if you believe the recession is over. Recently, talk radio is abuzz of the analysts in the financial world who feel the recession felt Americans is over and we’re recovering. So here’s the deal – tell us how you feel about the recession and if you believe if it’s over or not. We want to keep in touch with the needs of entrepreneurs who are bucking the recession and thriving, while keeping in mind the needs of struggling small business owners.

Vote in this poll and tell your fellow business-minded friends to vote, too:

Personally, I find that we will be in a long-haul recovery process. I don’t think meat scraps (tax breaks, CARS program, etc.) fed to the people like we’re hamsters are the right solution to turn the economy around while raising taxes on the very people — precisely, small businesses, who employ half the nation’s private workforce — who create jobs and build stability in an unstable market. I think everyone still is feels the effects and as long as it took us to fall into a economic dry spell, it will take equally as long to get out of. Personally, I think we’ll be doing better in a few years. I hold this as my own opinion and there’s plenty of diverse opinions out there, so feel free to disagree with me and tell your side in the comments below. I realize it’s a very complex equation that involves a lot of fuzzy logic and hedging bets that people will do the right thing for the overall recovery of the country.

Meanwhile, the number of entrepreneurs are on the rise. I think at Infusionsoft, we’re at the front of the wave of entrepreneurs who need to automate their business. My heart goes out to those who are affected by the recession and hope we all can turn that energy towards working together and building better businesses. Let’s work together, we can do it!

I know you got something to say, so dish it in the comments. Any solutions on how we can crush this recession?

We interviewed a number of small business people on the east coast this morning. Their orders are not picking up, their customers have no credit, things continue at a standstill. Maybe things are not getting worse at this point–but are they getting better? When a patient falls ill and he is lying in a hospital room, maybe he reaches the point where the fever is not getting higher and he is stabilized. Would you say he is getting better? I think at this point we can perhaps say the economy is not getting any worse.

Problems need answers. Businesses are built on fulfilling needs. Just like Infusionsoft, for the majority of time, we (jiveSYSTEMS) don’t focus on the economy. Our goal is to provide the best service we can, at the lowest possible price.

Is the recession over? No, not by a long shot! Thousands of people with families have lost their jobs. Recovering from that is a process that takes time. However, many opportunities have been created. Now is the time to start making your dreams a reality. For many, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Time, energy and creativity are the solution to almost every problem [not money].

My Dad always told me, “figure out what you could do day in and day out for the rest of your life, and then design a way to make money from it.” And that is exactly what I do!

I am an idealist and an eternal optimist, regardless of the odds or how the chips fall—I wholeheartly believe there is a silver lining to almost every situation.

How do we crush the recession? Don’t complain about! It’s happened and it sucks!!!! We can’t rollback time like supermarkets do prices. How do we crush the recession? We focus on fulfilling needs.

    Well according to This questionnaire
USA is the last country in the world, which will come out of recession. Apparently it is based solely on people’s opinions, but the fact, that basically 75% of 100% USA citizens think, that recession is not over yet and 17% of them think, that it will not even be over until 2-3 years, is not realistic. I have no idea, whether people have serious financial problems or they just don’t think realistically.

According to the study, the most important tool for small businesses to succeed in 2010 is search engine marketing, while email marketing, public relations and social media cited as crucial for success.
23.8% of all small businesses reported that search engine marketing was the tool most needed for their business to succeed in 2010.

With Facebook and Twitter being among the leaders of the Social networks, marketing as a small business is being transformed..
Respondents according to the Vertical Response survey appear to need some differentiation with the use of SE marketing and Social media Marketing.

    2) The Center for Media Research has released a study by Vertical Response that shows just where many of these ‘Main Street’ players are going with their online dollars. The big winners: e-mail and social media. With only 3.8% of small business folks NOT planning on using e-mail marketing and with social media carrying the perception of being free (which they so rudely discover it is far from free) this should make some in the banner and search crowd a little wary……….

    1) Often we forget the little guy, the SMB, in our discussions of the comings and goings of the Internet marketing industry. Sure there are times like this when a report surfaces talking about their issues and concerns but, for the most part, we like to talk about big brands and how they do the Internet marketing thing well or not so well……..

We're not even close to being done with this recession, we've only seen the beginning, what we're headed for is a long term depression.
