I totally agree. I think someone who merely sets up their outposts on Facebook, Twitter and the like without stepping back and listening and interacting with people is doing themselves a disservice.

Not everyone has to use social media the same way. In fact, I know people who barely update their Twitter, but are VERY social and outgoing. It's about finding the right way to leverage one's social capital for others and contribute.

I believe that Social Media's foundation is the core ability to know how to engage with people offline, in real life and be able to move between the two seamlessly. Social Media is a tool, not a replacement for real life engagement and interpersonal relationships. There is a person behind every Facebook account, Twitter account and every company – get to know them!
