Are you a Duck, Rabbit, or Eagle?

Are you a Duck, Rabbit, or Eagle? The Infusionsoft Purpose is “to liberate and empower entrepreneurs so that they can enjoy doing business, wow their customers, and better serve their families and communities.” One key part of accomplishing this purpose is to develop training resources and experiences that enable customers to find the Infusionsoft-related information they need and to apply what they learn in their own business.

My training team partners (Jordan Hatch and Michael Bast) and I are strongly committed to creating learning environments that lead you to 100% success in achieving your goals. So, we are reaching out to find out how you learn best.

Have you heard the story of the Duck, the Rabbit, and the Eagle? This story may sound familiar … but I’ve taken just a few … minor … liberties. This is a story about learning and applying what you learn.

There once was a group of three ambitious animal pals who decided they should do something meaningful, bring value to the world and build their own business. They were stout-hearted, brave, and innovative entrepreneurs. Their end goal was to quickly grow from a small, visionary company into a company with a solid industry reputation and steadily increasing revenue … as quickly as possible. So, each day, they gathered at their headquarters (aka “The Woods”) to train for their new venture. They designed a curriculum that would develop strength and propel them forward. The core involved three classes: swimming, running, and flying.

As you might imagine, the Duck excelled during swimming class. Each day he jumped into the pond and paddled around to his heart’s content. He was happy and learned quickly – he mastered his web-footed stroke and looked forward to the next day’s lesson. But, as much as Mr. Duck loved developing his “forward-motion” strength through swimming class, he dreaded the running and flying classes. He soon found himself making excuses to miss these classes, and, on the rare occasion that he did attend, he couldn’t wait for class to end. He just wanted it to be over – so, of course, he retained absolutely nothing useful. Sure, in the beginning, he tried to do his best, but when he realized that his flying ability was marginal at best and he found himself huffing and puffing at the back of the pack when he tried to run, he gave up. These abilities did not mature at all; he was simply frustrated during these classes because he did not feel competent.

Senior Rabbit’s story is different, yet very much the same. He could run laps around his friends during “Dash” class. He was exhilarated by the wind rushing through his ears as he sped to the front of the pack. Sure, his muscles might be a little sore at the end of the class, but it was worth it. He knew that he was at the top of his game. He sought out new running paths to explore, with progressive difficulty. He always felt up to any challenge when he was running – even when the path was not always smooth and easy. However, he nearly drowned in swimming class (cough, cough) and he never had a single lift off in flying class. GRRRR. He kept trying, but honestly these classes felt like a waste of his time. Simply futile.

Mademoiselle Eagle had yet another perspective. She favored flying class where she could soar to new heights, dive, loop, and see the sun. She was fearless when it came to aerial navigation – a natural. She ditched every other class the team had planned because she knew that she could take the company to new heights faster by sticking to flight. She did not WANT to sink in the pond or stagger and stumble through a running race. No way, not for her.

Here’s the bottom line – all three animal friends (aka entrepreneurs) had the same end goal. They wanted to move forward, get to the next level and achieve their goals. Does this sound like you?

At Infusionsoft, we realize that our entrepreneurial customers may have similar goals (leveraging automation in their business, do more with less, increase revenue, scale their business) and that they strive to cross parallel “finish lines.” However, we also realize that each of you learns differently – in ways that tap into YOUR strengths. Our highly committed training team is setting the vision for simple, accessible, easy to understand and easy to apply training resources. So, “Ducks,” “Rabbits,” and “Eagles,” how do you learn best? Please take a few moments to share.

The survey results will be used to improve our training resources here at Infusionsoft. If you don’t exactly “use” Infusionsoft, pass this link to the people who do. We want to get some honest feedback and be able to focus our efforts accordingly during 2011.

Take the short survey to let us know how to improve our training resources.
