Yesterday, we were thrilled about an exciting Webinar with Squarespace where we’d share the best practices in building effective landing pages. After practicing and running tests for hours before, we went live on the Webinar only to find out the Internet caused a great pain for many of our attendees. We apologize about that.
We’re no different from anyone else who uses technology to meet their needs. We’ve completed many successful Webinars for sales, marketing and partner related content in the past, so we didn’t expect problems to happen for our attendees this time. Oh, we were mistaken, Murphy’s Law didn’t forget us!
Beyond the scope of flaming comments, we were shocked by the upsetting experience attendees endured when they simply wanted to learn more about Infusionsoft, Squarespace and the essentials in building an effective landing page. We believe an unusual amount of lag and moments of limited bandwidth caused the problems we experienced when switching hosts of the Webinar.
We had to make the call to abbreviate the Webinar in favor of a few videos authored to present the concepts that we intended to cover. We respect the viewer’s time and wouldn’t want to put them through that again. Right now, we’re putting on the finishing touches on the videos so you can enjoy them. Expect a killer entry on landing pages in a bit.
We say that technology will get you because it will. It’s only a matter of time until you hit a breaking point where you can’t serve your customers when they need you the most. It’s a matter of survival, survival of your brand and reputation. So how much is your brand and reputation worth? It’s wise to invest in a proven technology solution, test the application and listen to feedback from your audience to gauge its effectiveness.
We learned many lessons from our Webinar experience. Going forward, we’ll be sure to host the Webinar ourselves and minimize intensive screen-sharing, lower the resolution so it has high performance, and dedicate additional resources to field questions and feedback from the audience. In no way does this reflect the quality or delivery of products and services of Squarespace, iLinc or ourselves — at least I hope so.
We thank you for your understanding and hope to see you on future Webinars.
